SOPREMA has opened its first factory in China, in the city of Changzhou (Jiangsu province), on March 7th, 2017
SOPREMA executive vice president for America and Asia M. Richard Voyer, the Consul General of Canada in Shanghai M. Weldon Epp, the Director of Quebec government offices in China M. Jean-Francois Lepine, the Economic head counsellor of the French consulate in Shanghai M. Raphael Pequignot and Changzhou Mayor M. Ding Yibo attended the ceremony.
SOPREMA group CEO M.Pierre-Etienne Bindschedler strongly welcomed this opening, which initiates the industrial development of SOPREMA in Asia. “From our very start in 1908, we realized that no matter how good our products may be, they could only be fully satisfactory to our clients if we could provide them with technical expertise and training in our facility, under the lead of brilliant staff. This factory is a sizable investment and will help is to maintain a strong relationship with our partners, by sharing our know how”.
SOPREMA has exported to China since 1999 and settled a subsidiary in 2004. It carried out several flagship projects such as the green roofs of Beijing Bird’s Nest and Shanghai Natural History Museum. Changzhou facility will play a key role in helping SOPREMA better respond to Chinese construction market’s tremendous demand. Besides, it will boost the group’s growth in the Asia-Pacific Region, where SOPREMA already has four offices – Hongkong, Singapore, Australia and Vietnam. This first investment phase, which focuses on PVC production, also includes a technical training center, dedicated to enhancing the quality of waterproofing solutions’ implementation and integration in architectural design.
